Today I finished up Breaking Dawn.  It only took about and hour and a half and was such a fun read.  Now I'm ready to go see the movie.  This author also has other titles out that I plan on checking out as soon as I am able to.

November 24th Breaking Dawn

Nov 24th I had the opportunity to take a break from school for the holidays and relax while catching up on a book before going to see the movie.  I had been wanting to read Breaking Dawn the final book of the Twilight series before watching the movie and grabbed the chance to do so.  This series of books is such a quick and fun read!

Reading for Nov 15-23 Bedtime Story and Magazines

Nov 15-23 I additional time reading every evening with my kids as we read a bedtime story and as they read individually as well.  I would read them a story and then they would read a book of their choice while I read a magazine.  What a relxing send off to bed for my kids and a nice way to wind down for me.

Reading for Nov 15-26 Daily Devotions

I have created a habit of reading my Bible and Daily Devotions at the beginning of my mornings.  In my Bible I read a corresponding Proverb to the day of the month that it is and a Psalm as well.  In addition to my daily Bible reading, I also read out of my 2 devotional books.  From Nov 15-26 I read 30 minutes every morning.

Oct. 22nd Reading

I completed another 2 hours reading Beth Moore's Get Out of that Pit today.  This book discusses different types of pits that we can fall into and different strategies for identifying those pits and removing ourselves from them.  This has been an especially beneficial book to me at this point in my life as I face challenges.

Have been doing much reading!

Since my last post, I have been doing alot of reading not only by myself, but have started my kids on the habit of reading before bed.  My daughter is participating in a reading program which she also has to log her time and my littlest one (the 5 year old), enjoys the novelty of doing what everyone else does.

So I have continued to read every morning my deviotional routine that combines a Proverb (corresponding to whatever day of the month it is) and Search My Heart O God, as well as Simple Living for Busy People.  For this blog update I have read Proverbs 15-26 and corresponding days in my other devotionals for 30 minutes each morning.  I take great comfort and renewal in these quiet times with the Lord's word.  My attitude and approach to my day and care I have for others has deepened.  I have more patience with my kids, others, and myself.  This has really helped me get through some stressful times lately.

In addition to my daily devotional reading, I take advantage of reading my Real Simple magazines for 30 minutes at night while the kids are doing their bedtime reading and sneak in a bedtime story with them.

On Thanksgiving, I took the time to relax with Breaking Dawn before going to see the movie later tonight after church.  It's such a quick and easy read, and REAL HARD to put down.  After my kids were dropped off with their dad at 6 that evening, I curled up until about 2:30 in the morning and knocked all but about 100 pages out taking bathroom break and a break to make a snack.  I finished the other 100 pages yesterday afternoon, which took about an hour and a half.  I'm geared up and ready to go to the movie now.

I have a habit of always trying to read the book before a movie comes out if the movie is based on a novel because I like to compare the book to the movie and see the directors interpretation of what they think the author is trying to convey in their language.  For example how similar the setting is to the book as well as the description of the characters.

Next week it's back to Devotions, quick magazine, and Beth Moore;-)

Catching up on my Reads

This week has been eventful, however, I have taken the time to make sure I get a 30 minute devotional in every morning before my feet hit the floor.  I'm also looking forward to catching back up on my Beth Book.  I have started a routine of reading 3 different sources for my devotions.  The first being the devotion for the day from Kay Arthur....Search My Heart O God, Simple Living for Busy People, and then whatever day of the month it is I have taken a cue from a great friend and read a chapter from Proverbs that corresponds to whatever day of the month it is.  So for this week I read Proverbs chapters 6-13, Kay Arthur's Devotions for Nove 6-13, and pages 6-13 in Simple Living.  I have found that I am able to focus and be more centered when I include this reading in the beginning of my day.  There have been two days when I wasn't able to read in the morning but snuck it in when before I went to bed.

Log for this week:
Nov 6-13  30 min per day = 4 hrs of reading

This has been a very practical and beneficial way for me to not only focus on my relationship with the Lord, but to also ensure that I am using any spare time to read wisely.  I do have a stack of Real Simple magazines that I have promised myelf I will tear into again this week!

Beth Moore and my other Reads

Here is my reading log for the week:  Thursday night I read my Beth Moore book Get Out of That Pit for 45 minutes before I went to bed and answered the Reflection Questions in the back of the book for Chapter 2.  I really liked Chapter because it deals with being put in a pit innocently through what difficulty is dealt you in life.  On Friday my cousin and I got together for an hour to discuss what we had read.  This weekend I had the chance to flip through some magazines for a two hours while my car was being worked on at the shop.  I had a stack of Real Simple magazines that I had not had a chance to even read.  It was odd that I actually sat and read magazines for that long.  I almost felt guilty and knew that I had other things to do, but luckily I ended up having a few extra hours without a vehicle and took my magazines with me.  Real Simple is one of my favorite magazines and it may sound odd, but it soothes me because of its simplicity and layout.  It isn't cluttered with ads, it is just as the title states...."REAL SIMPLE".
On Sunday I had the chance to start on Chapter 3 of my Beth Moore book and get a head start before going to bed.
So my log for the week is
Tue Oct 18-45 minutes
Sat Oct 22-2 hours
Sun Oct 23-45 minutes

Beth Moore Rocks

For my Reading Class at Southwestern College, we are required pleasure read for 90 minutes a week, log our time and blog about our weely read.  Since I am an insanely busy mom of 3 and full time student, I have had to make time to read and make sure I wisely choose what I am reading and that I get alot from it.  So....I have chosen a book by one of my favorite authors, Beth Moore and am currently reading her book, Get Out of That Pit.  I have been meeting with my cousin weekly to discuss what we have learned from this book and how it applies to our lives and the tools we take from it.  Recently I went through a very painful divorce and have sought much comfort in my faith.  This book has opened my eyes and was just the thing I needed to pick up for closure to a huge chapter in my life.  I started reading Get Out...On October 2nd and read the beginning through Chapter One and then completed the Discovery Questions for the Chapter found in the back of the book.  On Friday the 7th, my cousin and I got together for prayer and reflection over what we had read.  This isn't your typical self help feel good book, this is nitty gritty, evaluate your life, type of talk that isn't always pleasant to visit.  I highly recommend this for everyone!
